  • The Indian Railway had a requirement of increased freight haulage on its network, in particular, on the iron ore routes – subject the bridges to higher tractive / braking forces
  •  Performance evaluation of railway bridges for increased axle loadings for Southern Railway
  •  Steel plate girder bridge, PSC girder bridge and Arch Bridges Evaluated
  •  Instrumenting specific locations of the selected span of the bridge
  •  Exhaustive instrumentation with strain gages, LVDT’s, accelerometers for measuring various structural parameters
  •  Measurement of responses during defined test cases
  •  Data analysis and interpretation to evaluate the structural performance.

  • Assessment of condition of the structure carried out by conducting load test
  • During load test the structures was instrumented with sufficient number of strain gages to measure strain values and dial gages to measure    displacement values
  • Based on the investigations, the load carrying capacity is evaluated

  • Assessment of residual prestress is essential for repairing / rehabilitation of these structures
  • Concrete core trepanning technique is a powerful non-destructive technique for existing stress evaluation for in-service structures
  • CSIR-SERC has developed this technique for field application and successfully applied in many bridges and infrastructure in assessing the existing level of stress / prestress

  • To assess the response of the structure, sensors and systems without any externally applied load, except due to diurnal variations in temperature
  • Generating data for correcting the measured deflections due to proof test
  • Measurements During Proof Test
  • Pressure applied in 5 equal stages
  • Measurement of strain and deflection during pressurisation and depressurisation
  • Recovery of deflections and strains monitored for 48 hours
  • Structural integrity of the containment evaluated
